Congratulations to the winners of the Suffolk Writers Group’s Maritime Competition. Organiser Mai Black gave entrants the choice of writing about one of three evocative black and white photos from IMT’s huge Image Archive, www.ipswichmaritimetrust.org.uk/image-archive – each including, unusually, an animal.
The judges were Ben Good, IMT chairman; and Julia Jones, author and publisher at www.golden-duck.co.uk They enjoyed reading the range of responses to the photos, and were impressed by the choice of words and stories created.
And the winners are: Nic Whittam, Lucy Aikman and Anya Page, seen in the photo with Mai Black on the left, and Ben Good on the right, at the presentation of framed certificates and entries, on Wednesday 6th November 2024.
The winning prose and poems will be published in our Ipswich Maritime Matters magazine next year.
Our next First Wednesday of the Month meeting will be on 4th December at 7.30pm for a Maritime Medley in the Steamboat Tavern, led by the Orwellermen and Shefarers of Pin Mill shanty singers. All welcome!
